Successful Strategies for Sticking with Your Home Workouts

Why can’t I ever finish a workout from home the same way as I do at the gym?  This is a common barrier to working out at home.  You may have figured it out on your own being that you don’t have any other option when it comes to exercise now BUT to do it at home.  If you are stuck at home for the shut down and need some help maintaining your workout regimens, I have some tips for you.

  1. Get Started! Limit the excuses and make it a priority! THIS IS THE FIRST STEP!
  2. Have a workout plan! If you are going to workout at home, you MUST be organized with what workout you’re going to do. One of my dreams was to reach people in their homes with workouts and to be able to motivate them in real time. Thanks to COVID-19, gasoline was poured on that dream out of necessity and “In the Paint” was created! If you don’t join me, there are several options for working out at home. At the beginning of the week, mark your workout days in your planner and stick to it. The Diets Are Dead Undated 90 Day Journal is a great resource to help you be accountable to sticking to that plan.
  3. If you are not checking in with a live workout from home, then get up EARLY in the morning to complete your DVD, mp3 download, Youtube or your personally designed workout! Your best bet for not getting interrupted by life in general is to get up before the world gets moving. There are no extra curricular kid’s activities, no calls from your work team, no hungry children. Me time, just for you. Get up and go!
  4. Aim for shorter workouts! If your motivation level is low, in the beginning you might quit if you set yourself up to do a whole hour workout. There are plenty of 15, 20, 30 minute workout options offered to get your started.
  5. Put on your workout clothes way ahead of the scheduled time. I’ve said it before, if that means sleeping in them, so be it.
  6. You can utilize a mirror or something like a mirror to see your form and motivate you to continue. I have used an actual mirror, my reflection in the TV screen and turned on the iPad and recorded myself so I could see what I looked like. The same reason group fitness rooms are packed with mirrors is the same reason the mirror image will inspire you at home.
  7. You need some form of accountability! You can use your friends group or social media. Just make sure you have some sort of check in! In the Paint is all about #OneCommunity! The great thing about group fitness is the camaraderie and the accountability. To Join In the Paint and be a part of that community, just CLICK HERE!

Working out at home can seem like an insurmountable task, however with these tips, I hope you will commit to making it a priority. Even though the gyms are opening up, there will be times that you will not be able to make it to the gym. You need to know that YOUR BODY IS A GYM and you can utilize that theory to get efficient, quality workouts from home on a regular or as needed.

Live Healthy & Active. Be Prosperous.
