Student Spotlight #2 – An Appropriate Farewell

T.G.I.F. PFL! Sorry for the morbidness of Wednesday. At least now, we should all know what we want for our blogs in the unfortunate event that we expire while we are still blogging.

This version of Act-Fit Friday will be the new Student Spotlight feature that you all seem to enjoy!

Catherine Crossway

Catherine Lucas is a 39 year-old former chemist of 10 years for an oil company.  She currently stays at home with the kiddos!  Her 3 children’s obligations are her priority.  However, according to her,  It’s great now that all 3 are in school when her workouts come into place.

Catherine has taken my class on Wednesday morning for a year now & was one of the first and loyal participants since we added BODYCOMBAT express onto the BODYPUMP full hour class.

“I like that BODYPUMP is a class with weights.  As I get older, I find that lifting weights helps with my weight just as much if not more than cardio.

I find going up on weights most challenging.  I can have a hard time challenging and pushing myself.

Joi is the reason I have stayed with BODYPUMP & BODYCOMBAT.  She is my favorite instructor of BODYPUMP!  She brings so much energy to the class.”

I have thoroughly enjoyed having Catherine as a dedicated student excited about living an active and fit lifestyle.

Catherine informed me she was moving to her husband’s hometown a few weeks ago. Last Wednesday was her last class. Wasn’t that nice of her to let me know ahead of time. See why Wednesday’s post was important. In all aspects of our life, people care a lot more than we may think.  I would have seriously been concerned if she just disappeared!

Now I can bid her an appropriate blog farewell 🙂 We love  you Catherine & may you continue to “Live Healthy & Active. Be Prosperous.”

  1. I think I would do better with a personal trainer…my boys barber is a personal trainer and he fine…..whew forgot I as married. He asked me if I needed his help but in my mind I was thinking *side eye* I think the group classes are good if its something fun. Wishing her the best and I know she will find some great classes where she moves.

  2. I’ve never had a personal trainer but I know several and they seem to get good results. I prefer group classes. There is a communal energy with a group that I enjoy.

The biggest problem I see with personal training is it is usually a limited time frame due to the costs and moat people that use them, can not maintain the benefits once on their own.

  3. I actually emailed the person I referred to in my comment on your last post to find out what was up! I prefer group fitness instructors. I feel like trainers always seem to have an air of superiority, like they know more than you and can do everything better, while group instructors are usually more approachable. I don’t know why I think this but I do!

  4. I used to love group classes and probably would again if I found the right ones!
Sorry that one of your regulars is moving – I hope she finds a good class to attend (we know the instructor won’t be as good!) in her new home!!!

  5. This November, I am looking forward to preparing for the new year. 2013 has been rough for me, and I feel like I need to get my behind back on track with my goals and what not. I can get it all done in 2 months, right?

And I don’t prefer a trainer over a fitness instructor or versa versa. I am all about the personality and feeling inspired in a class or a session. Not everyone can make people feel like that.

  6. Ah, so true. It all matters. Or it can matter. And I’d totally worry if a student I’d had for a year stopped coming! Knowing me, I’d take it personally. That’s how I am with my blog!! Seriously, I’m bad like that.
Halloween was wonderful. We did a rousing party and then went trick-or-treating. It was very hard for me not to yell “trick-or-treat” when we went to the doors. I guess it was an old reflex, but I was totally supposed to let Scarlet say it!

    1. You stealing the joy of trick or treating, lol! Too funny! You were fabulous in costume though, I would have been yelling too!

  7. Whew…well thank goodness of this little explanation. We thought we were going to have to talk you off a ledge! I much prefer a high energy group class over an instructor. Halloween was all about drawing whiskers and taking pictures.

  8. Aww…what an appropriate farewell indeed Joi! I think I would like the one-on-one with a personal trainer. You know Joi, I offered to be my husband’s PT, but he declined…go figure! 😀
It’s Nov. 1st…so I’m geeked about the upcoming holiday season! It’s festive in the Pulliam household from now until Jan. 2nd! Whoohooo!!

    1. I love it!!! The holidays well be extra special for me this year because I’m off for the first time since graduation for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, WHOOP!

  9. Since Wednesday’s post I have written down my login and password info at home for my blog. For Halloween I passed out candy in my subdivision while Hubby took Deuce trick-or-treating. For the month of November, I am looking forward to promoting my book and taking my blog to the next level.

  10. I love that she let you know where she was going before disappearing, that was super considerate of her! I am learning to love both honestly. Group fitness is amazing and great but my trainer has shown me a new way of working out and pushing myself. Plus the boxing that we do isn’t something I could get in a GF class because of the individual attention. I think I am split down the middle 🙂

  11. I wish Catherine luck at her new place! Having great students is what makes it worth it to go out and teach.

I have not made any changes to what I’m doing with my blog. Even though I should. I didn’t post anything on Friday. Did it freak you out? LOL!

  12. I am a fan of having a trainer, ONE ON ONE, because I like to be the central focus, does this make me a bad person?! LOL I like ALL THE ATTENTION! Plus I like to talk to my trainer about who knows what, I tend to make friends with my trainers. I have to say my pilates instructor is one of my best friends! 😀

  13. I’ve given Wednesday’s post a lot of thought but I haven’t taken any solid steps yet, Joi. But I will! For November, I’m looking forward to going on a retreat just before Thanksgiving. And of course there’s Thanksgiving itself!

  14. Aw this is so nice! I haven’t made any plans! I’ve been thinking about creating a post and then showing my husband how to publish it if something happened to me, God forbid. On another note, I enjoy group classes since I was a dancer and I think the class atmosphere is just so fun. I have always enjoyed learning in groups 🙂

    1. That’s a good idea! The less work for the fellas the better. Groups are super fun to me! Members keep me fired up!

  15. Awesome that you were able to spotlight her. Best wisher to Catherine and her family.

Depending on my fitness goals and my level of commitment, I don’t mind having a personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor.

I am definitely looking forward to Thanksgiving and all the festivities surrounding family an the holidays
