I, Rx Fitness Lady…Blog Will & Testament

I, Rx Fitness Lady…Blog Will & Testament

No, I’m not through here! I just have a few questions!  It’s been a while since I wrote a blogging post.  Today, I am looking for insight.

All of these questions were swarming through my mind months ago when I had a blog I follow to suddenly stop posting without an explanation.  It worries me.  I pose the following questions…

A FEW BLOGGING QUESTIONS

How fond are you really of the blogs you follow?

Would you worry if a regular personal blogger just stopped blogging all of a sudden?

What if the blogger passed away suddenly & had no Facebook, twitter, Instagram?

What if they were only a blogger to you, but a blogger you loved?

What if they only went by a blog name with no way to look them up?  Does that mean you are less fond of them?

IF YOU WERE TO SUDDENLY PASS AWAY…

Self-hosted bloggers, would you allocate money to keep your blog alive?  For how long? I mean, the Internet is new!  Do you want your blog on the net indefinitely?  Just pondering…

Who would administrate the blog?  Do they have your log in information?  Would they even know what to do once they logged in?

For the beginning and up and growing bloggers…if you have profits from your blog, who will maintain them?

Would you instruct someone to post your obituary on the blog?

SOCIAL NETWORKS

What say you of your Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Linked In, Instagram, and whatever else comes on the scene?

Does someone have your log in information?  Will they cancel prescheduled posts?

How far out do you schedule social network posts if you use a scheduler anyway?

How do you feel when you see random comments on the deceased’s Facebook pages…or worse…spam & game request?

Will your blog be like your MySpace or like the deceased on Facebook?

Do you really think readers care to know?

Do you feel that you even owe your readers an explanation?

Is your blog like the hit TV show Girlfriends?  Does it disappear without any explanation ever if you pass away?

Rx Fitness Lady wants to know….

  • Um, excuse me…did you read my post 🙂 ?

  1. It’s funny that 2 days ago I asked some similar questions…not so much about my blog, but how will my blogging readers be notified if I died. I don’t have any real plans for continuing if I’m no longer able to. It’s still a hobby and I would hope that the words that I’ve written can continue to inspire.
I added my blog URL to my business hosting site so my hubs has all the log in info…hopefully we don’t die at the same time.

I’d want to know if and why a blogger chooses to discontinue, but I don’t think they owe me an explanation. Recently one of my favorite local blogger went MIA. I wondered why they weren’t posting so I reached out through an email. Turns out they were a bit busy with traveling etc.. and a couple weeks later they were posting again.

I have about 10 blogs that I’m really fond of. I enjoy reading every post although occasionally I don’t get a chance to comment, but I know when they miss a post and I enjoy their writing.

Anyway, I’m a little confused with the statement “It’s been a while since I wrote a blogging post” Am I missing something?
You know I read it 🙂
Hope recently posted…Why are you looking at me like that?My Profile

    1. Oh, sorry Hope! I meant a post about blogging (like ya know a post that only us bloggers really care about or want to read).

We are always thinking on the same page. Earlier in the year, I was really fond of a fellow pharmacist and she disappeared, reappeared, then disappeared again. It worried me. She wasn’t on any social networks. I actually drafted this post back in April and felt the need to get some answers now. I have seen so many bloggers come and go in less than a year, SMH!

Funny, I want an explanation!!! If you dip out, I’m blowing up your email, twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, are you in Instagram, lol!

  2. GOSH! I have never even thought of this. If I had to plan for this to happen tomorrow, I would make sure that a close bloggy friend… probably Nellie since she knows blog stuff, would be able to shut down and announce anything that needed to be announced. I would want my social media shut down, but the blog could stay open with a message for a few months but then shut down too.

If I turn into some mega blogger, I would hope that my team (cause I would have a fab team in place then) would be able to keep on trucking without me!

I have been meaning to write a business plan and I feel like this should be in it now…

  3. How fond are you really of the blogs you follow?
Very fond there are a few I don’t really like but they show me love so the least I can do is show some back. Most blogs though are great to read and I truly enjoy them

Would you worry if a regular personal blogger just stopped blogging all of a sudden? Yes if it’s a person who normally blogs all the time I would be concerned but if I see them on FB or Twitter then I normally assume all is okay. If they are missing from everything then I reach out to them.

What if the blogger passed away suddenly & had no Facebook, twitter, Instagram?
I don’t even want to imagine this

I do schedule my posts out for a day in advance it helps me keep up with all the blogs I do. I also would give an explanation I mean I have dedicated readers who look forward to my posts I think it’s the least I can do to let them know I care.

  4. ok. I giggled at the Girlfriends reference bc that is SO true! They disappeared without a warning or explanation. I worry about my blog friends if I haven’t seen them post in a while. Just yesterday I shot out an email to a friend who blogged regularly then just fell off of the map. I’d want to make sure my friend is ok.

  5. Yep – read it all!
I’m not sure I have thought about what would happen to my blog if I died – I guess Chris would wrap it up.
I do care a lot about many of the bloggers I follow – I have actually emailed or tweeted a couple when it has been a long period of silence just to make sure they were OK.

  6. Wow, these are some things I’ve never thought of. I would want my blog to stay up for a while at least. I never thought of all the administration side that would go with that.

I know if a blogger who I followed passed away, I would want to know so that I could mourn them as well. I’ve had some instances where a blogger I followed just stopped posting entirely and I got very worried about her because I cared deeply for her. So yes, I would want to know.

Thanks for making me think. It’s morbid albeit but important to consider.

    Wishing you a lovely day.
    xoxo

    1. Hey Jennifer! The morbidity was my issue with posting it. I actually drafted it in April! I felt the need to hit publish though, because it was on my mind and I continue to see bloggers come and go. Thank you so much for the feedback. Good to hear from you!

  7. Definitely read it all! Food for thought. I’ve had bloggers I loved suddenly stop, but it wasn’t from death luckily. Just other priorities or going private or whatnot.
I think my husband would post on all of my networks. Not that he knows my passwords, but hey, I guess…that stuff should be talked about?
Oh Joi – you and your great blogging questions.

  8. OMGeee Joi, I think about that all the time! Especially with FB, but I know my family would do something where that is concerned. I’ve never, however, thought about it where my blog is concerned. More than likely, it’ll probably stop though. I can’t see anyone else posting on my behalf and sharing my heart. I often think about that with people who live alone and don’t have family members around. I mean, who would know if something happened to them if there’s no one around, ya know? As far as blogging friends who have just fallen off the face of the earth…I’ve tried reaching out to them and nothing…. I sure hope they didn’t pass away. 🙁 I think that was one of my main reasons for starting the FB group with my blogging friends, so that we can stay connected outside of our blogs. Thanks as always my friend for making us think outside of the box! Have a good one love!!
Michell recently posted…Doing YOU WELL Wednesday #39 and a tribute to a dear friendMy Profile

    1. You know Michelle, I meant leaving the old post available. I didn’t really think anyone would continue posting, but you know as a self hosted blogger there are fees associated with blogging….just wondering. Good point about ppl living alone, I hope I’m not ever in that position.

  9. I am feeling some kind of way about this post, you got me thinking too hard LOL!

My first reaction is to yes, have someone put up something about my passing but I’d want the blog to live on–now that I am self hosted I guess my hubby better take some of that insurance money and keep it going. I’d like to hope that my story would still apply and help others years later 🙂

I think the social networks would have to be shut down, who wants to follow a dead person…? Weird no?

I genuinely love the blogs I follow daily. I feel empty without them. (which is why I had a big hole in my heart last week!) 🙂

I have no words for Girlfriends…I still record it on the DVR. If they did the game–they could EASILY do girlfriends!! Come on Mara!!

If someone stopped blogging all of a sudden I wouldn’t be too surprised—this bloggy life is WORK. Sometimes long extended vacations are needed.

Now you and Kimmy have me thinking maybe I should start a blog insurance business. hahaha.

    1. Not funny, I pondered long and hard about that, but didn’t think bloggers would deem it that serious!

    1. My best friend’s mother wow her obituary and emailed it to both her daughters and they about had fits. She said she knew what she wanted and didn’t want them messing it up, lol.

  10. This is a really interesting post! I actually had someone suddenly stop posting and I was thinking of emailing her to figure out what is going on. For me, it becomes less about the blogs that I follow and more about the blogger. I honestly stop seeing the posts and think more about the person. It’s like when you meet up with a friend. You talk about boring things like what you are doing, your job, your family, your vacation plans or the weather. None of this is terribly exciting but you enjoy it because you like the person. I feel like this with bloggers (although actually some posts are very exciting so I am not saying that anyone is boring) but it just becomes more about catching up with that person than reading their content. So all of this is to say that if someone suddenly stops blogging, yes, I get worried. I don’t have a will for my blog but now I think I better make one because I am 100% certain the fam would have no idea what to do with it if I passed away.

  11. Oh, my, this is heavy! And yes, some things I’ve thought of. In a perfect world, my daughter would take over my blog and just keep it going. But she does not have the same interest as me. Or the desire to blog.

I don’t have a list of my log ins and passwords but my computer remembers most of them. And my husband generally knows what I use so he could figure it out.

How about this question. You’re not dead but when do you stop blogging? Do you blog about health and fitness when you’re 80?

And yes, there are some bloggers that I would contact through email and make sure they are ok. There are others that I wouldn’t. And in general when they don’t ever give me a real name, I’m already ticked off at them anyway. I think it’s bizarre when people post personal information but won’t even give me a nickname. It makes it hard to connect.

    1. How about this question. You’re not dead but when do you stop blogging? Do you blog about health and fitness when you’re 80?<<< Carli, this is what my mother is always asking! She's like, I mean, ya'll have to run out of stuff to talk about eventually, lol! I am not sure dear! Someone can relate to all stages of life, guess it just depends on what time you have as life transitions.

  12. I’ve thought about these things but my brain just fell out because I never thought about all of them at one time. Yes. Other people have my log-in. My hubs & I are thinking about combining each of our sites into one LLC (to form a small media company). This would definitely take care of administering the income aspect, but most of the other questions, I really need to be getting to. Thanks for this very important reminder.

  13. Oh geez Joi! Do I need to give someone all of my passwords and stuff? I never thought of this the the extent of what if something happened to me. If a week goes by and I haven’t seen a blogger I follow closely anywhere in SM – then I usually reach out and say “Just checking on you”. I do worry about people who disappear. But then there are others I say, “Dang I wonder what happened to her.” I had an email subscription to someone who disappeared and I was really excited when she came back. I left a long comment welcoming her back and commenting on the situation that led to her absence. She didn’t comment back. No acknowledgment. You think maybe she wrote me off because I didn’t acknoledge her absence while she was gone? Anyway I didn’t watch Girlfriends to the end but I do hate it when that happens.

    1. Idk, that is weird! I couldn’t even figure out how to email one blogger who was on blogger. I think it’s a courtesy to just give an little update. You don’t have to tell all your business. A simple, I’ll be gone for a while let’s us know you haven’t been harmed.

  14. Oh my goodness…all the questions! No one really knows any of my login information for the blog or my social networks. I suppose that should be changed so at least the Husband could access it in an emergency.

I’ve been around blogging long enough to see some of my favorite bloggers disappear – often with no warning, and sometimes without ever coming back. I’ll admit, it’s often hard at first. I only follow/comment on blogs that I feel are worth my time and often that means developing a sort of internet relationship. So it’s definitely a surprise when someone disappears. I just hope that they are okay and hope for an update at some point.

    1. My sister wanted to do a blog long before me then felt it was too much work. She could take care of my final post or what not but I need to make sure she remembers my passwords.

  15. My daughter is too young to keep BeQuoted alive and well, so I’m sure I’d be in the “Girlfriends” category.

So many questions here! Whew. It’s nearly 11:00pm out here. I’m not sure if I’m prepared for all of this…I am fond of quite of few blogs I follow; many I support because they support my blog. I’m not sure that I’d be too concerned about a blogger who stopped blogging, because I could be her and know that life sometimes interrupts us. There have been a few bloggers who did take impromptu hiatuses and I reached out to them on Twitter asking what the deal was. Luckily, they were fine.

I wouldn’t really want my obituary posted on any social sites. It would be nice for my loved ones to continue to post Quotes of the Week on my behalf. That I would like. Other than that I’m sure that me and BeQuoted would be forgotten because I never pre-schedule post. Everything I post is composed right before the reader lays eyes on it.

    1. Apparently a few of you wouldn’t mind more posts. I was actually referring to just paying to keep the old post up. Ya know, for like your family to scroll through if they so desired.

  16. I never really thought about it! It’s so tragic. I would definitely be worried/upset if one of my favorites blogs suddenly stopped with no explanation. As for my blog? It dies with me! It’s my voice and if that voice is silenced then it’s gone. I would want someone to post something to FB or Twitter or whatever so that all my “blends” know and I’m sure my husband would do that. Why so morbid girl??? Ha ha ha!!!

  17. I never thought of ANY of this, and have no idea how my blog will be handled if I pass way. I know that no one has any of my log in info to any of my social media accounts. I am assuming that one of my personal friends would make a social media announcement and the word be spread via RT. You’ve really given me something to think about!
Britton recently posted…What to Wear…Football Game DayMy Profile

  18. Okay, this is deep! That headstone was creeping me out. I would hope that someone would post on my BAW social media accounts that I had gone home to glory. Something to ponder…no one has my login info for my blog and what-not. There are some great blogs like yours out there that I would hate to see go.

There is one blog in particular that I’m not going to name because I don’t know the whole story…BUT there was an up and coming blogger that I really liked. When I went to her site one day there was a 404 error. I thought it was just a glitch. She had just had a SITS feature day, she was co-hosting linky parties, getting sponsors, the whole nine. One of her co-hosts for a linky party announced that the blogger had to bow out due to family reasons and had also taken down her site. I was quite concerned b/c my first thought was “Why take down the site?” “Why not just resume blogging when or if you can?” Some people have sites that they have not updated in several months/years. I have since seen her commenting on blogs but that’s it. It was very odd.

  19. Oh wow, I must say that I never thought about this. I’m not sure how this would be handled, because my husband wouldn’t know how to access, how to post, how to send – nothing! (Making a mental note to give hubby the passwords.) I get kinda weirded out when I run across the Facebook pages of deceased friends. The pages are still up because no one has access to them.
There was a blogger that I followed regularly. His posts were usually controversial, but thought-provoking. He suddenly stopped posting, and then the site was shut down with some sort of violation message. He was also on FB, but there’s no activity there either. Who knows…

  20. haha! i’m definitely a planner, but not when it comes to keeping my blog up and running post-catherine. a lot of these questions came to mind when a blogger stopped posting for a month. no explanation. she’s someone i read everyday and i started googling her to see if someone had happened, etc. it turns out she devoted that month to focusing on her IVF treatment. and when she returned, it was to much applause with hundreds of people commenting their relief.

  21. You pose some very thoughtful questions here! I actually don’t know if I could get my hubby to post a obituary of some sort on my blog if I died. He isn’t much of a computer person. I actually have developed some great relationships with a lot f bloggers and would really be sad if they passed away. I think the blog for some of these relationships is like the vehicle to which I have gotten to know them. I don’t agree with or adore every post per se of every blog but I love the person I’ve come to know from just about all of them. So for some blogs it’s less about enjoying the content and more about enjoying the journey of getting to know people in what they have I say. 🙂

    1. Yep, definitely get connections with the blogger as opposed to just soaking up content. I simply love the blog world! I never knew it would be this emotionally rewarding!

  22. Joi, this is a lot of good food for thought. I’m with Allie: when I die, the blog dies. I’d want someone to post on FB or Twitter, so perhaps I need a designated person for that specific task. I’ve been putting a lot of my “house” in order, so this is very timely as the blog is an important part of my life. Hmmm. I can always depend on you to keep the cogs of my brain moving!

And yes, I read your post. I read each of your posts!

  23. I’ve had two bloggers I follow stop blogging. One gave an explanation and the other didn’t. I’ve never even thought about what would happen to my blog. Maybe my girls can take over for me if they were interested. They know how important my blog is and how much I love blogging. I’ll have to talk to them about this.

  24. There are a few occasions when I have my ducks in a row enough to have posts scheduled in advance both on my blog and social media outlets, but it’s very rare.
I honestly don’t think anyone would take over my blog. I think it would just disappear without warning. Of course, my husband seems just as interested in it, and claims to be co-owner and there are times when he’ll pop out a blog post for me because I just don’t want to write that day. So, who knows, he may jump on and take over. All I know for sure, is he refuses to let me stop blogging now that I’ve started it.

  26. This blog posts a LOT of interesting questions. Noone even knows how to get on my blog – let alone my social media accounts! I know that for me, when I blogger I love falls off the grid, I do worry, I’ve emailed a few of my better friends to check in on them when they disappear for a while. And that’s part of why I have publicly made it known that I am blogging less. I think for a lot of us, there is an ebb and flow to blogging but for a more permanent exit, the issues you discuss above deserve some consideration.

    1. I appreciate your sharing as you transition. There are a few of my friend that do an awesome job of updating and it comforts me. I truly feel connected to my blog friends so the worry is genuine not intrusive when wanting to know why they’ve stopped or decreased posts.

  27. I’ve never thought about these questions!
How fond am I of the blogs I follow?
I follow a lot, but there are some who I would be very concerned about. Those are the ones who I know their real names and actually follow them in real life too.
If I was to dies, I don’t think I’m too concerned about that. I do have a list of passwords and stuff somewhere where my husband can get to if anything happens to me. I wonder if he would let my followers know what happened?
And yes, I read your post! LOL I read all of them, just don’t always comment.

    1. Thanks for commenting on THIS one. I was very curious to know what you seasoned bloggers had in place regarding this.

  28. I haven’t thought about any of this! There is only one person who knows how to get on my blog. I’d like to think if something happened to me, he would tell people. I guess I should ask that question. I will say when a blogger I like disappears for a while, I do notice, and I have commented to them to ask if everything is ok. If you disappeared, I would notice, even though I am behind on reading your blog. I’m here now, catching up!!

  29. You have really given me some food for thought here! Lord willing, when that time comes my daughter will be old enough to take over if she’s interested. I’m praying that my children realize just how passionate I am about DWP and find a way to keep it going. But now I’m really going to give some serious thoughts as to how to ensure that happens if they are too young to do so or have no desire at all. Some heavy stuff early in the AM but definitely necessary! Thanks, as always, Joi!

  30. I’ve never thought about this. I’ve had my blog for 5 years, but I’m such a sporadic blogger. I think the small amount of people who do read my blog would probably just think I’m just being my sporadic self if something happened to me! I have passwords written for billing accounts, but not my blog. Now that I think about it, I’d want my husband to keep it. As Nellie has made me realize before, it’s my diary. It would be great for it to be around for my son to read when he’s older.
Most of the blogs I read, I follow the writers on several social media outlets. So, if they disappear from one, I’m not too concerned, but if they totally drop off, I’d have to go searching for them!
