A Review of Les Mills BODYCOMBAT 55 (VIDEO)

I’m back with another review of my favorite program Les Mills BODYCOMBAT!

BODYCOMBAT 55 REVIEW

The comments so far that I’ve read on this release were not very kind.  This of course was coming from the instructors on the Les Mills website.  I have to admit, when I popped the DVD in to watch it when it first came in the mail, I was not impressed at all 🙁 !  However, I’ve taught it several times now and practiced a few before hand & my review will not be as harsh.

You know I’m still learning all about blogging and trying to come into my whole blog flow.  Again, I really appreciate you for taking the survey this week.  With that said, I’m not sure how I will continue my Les Mills reviews.  When I find a format that I love, it will start to look a bit more standard, so just hang in there with me.  This one will be shorter than the previous ones since I included a quick video YAY 🙂 !!!!

SN: For my blog friends – I know this topic doesn’t appeal to most of you, but there are over 75,000 certified Les Mills Instructors who have this same passion as I do, so you can imagine the traffic these posts get.  I appreciate you hanging out on Act-Fit Friday either way, Love ya!

MY THOUGHTS ON LES MILLS BODYCOMBAT 55

RATINGS

MUSIC – 5

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that the music moves me for these classes!  I can’t say that any of the songs really got me excited like I spoke of in the latest BODYPUMP 85 release review.  Well “Where Have You Been – Smithee Remix Edit” – Candid, was kinda hard but any track that Andres from Hong Kong instruct’s is usually going to fire you up for teaching.  I LOVE when he is on the instructor DVD!

CHOREOGRAPHY – 7

There were a lot of switches on the rhythm in this release.  I thought it would be a little difficult to convey to members, but they caught right on.

I love the upper body and lower body warmup!

Track 2, the first fight was different from usual and had a club feel to it.  I noticed members putting a little groove in their steps, that actually fired me up to shake a bit more.

Track 3 which is usually one of my favorites, was mediocre.  I did like the rhythm switches here though.

Track 4 seemed too easy to me in comparison to previous track fours.

Track 5 was a major bust (this alone could be why the reviews are so terrible)!

Track 6 I loved! Already stated that above.

Track 7 I chose to include a snippet! You decide!

Track 8 was another easy peasy one!

Track 9 the abs is killer!  Very nice choreography and challenging!

Cool down was standard, no complaints there.

WHAT MEMBERS SAID – THEY LOVE IT!!! – To me, this is MOST important! It definitely was a good cardio workout & if you mix in some high energy and talk to the members, they can’t tell the difference.

Please don’t forget to visit this post about my Mini May Blog Challenge & leave me a comment if you plan to participate.  I’m already getting geared up you can see with me being all fast posting a video today, lol.  It is not at all what I wanted to include so I have lots of work to do (intro, clarity, etc).  This challenge hopefully will help us all accomplish a blog goal in May.

  1. I would probably try the 45 minute version, you seem like you can still give a great class regardless of format!! 🙂 I don’t mind these reviews at all.

    1. Lol, you miss me 🙂 Our project is sitting feeling neglected!

I saw your vlog & loved it! Great minds think alike. I think you could hang the entire time teaching Zumba & all, but thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate you all helping me collect data!

  2. I’ll admit, I’m a bit disappointed. This release was my first every and I loved it (I don’t have anything to compare it to), but after reading your review I feel a little like I’m missing out. I’m definitely sticking to it though…maybe the next release will be better (although you won’t post about it :))
So nice to see you in action. Instructors make a huge difference. We did those same moves, but they were totally different :\ Have a great weekend Joi.

    1. Don’t be disappointed Hope, I’m sorry..it really wasn’t that bad. It’s just that for the instructor, some of the releases are like “magical”, lol! This one was mediocre but we try to sell it either way.

LOL, what is the pie face about? Was it really that different? In a good or bad way?

      1. LOL. My pie face was for confusion with my comment… same moves, but different…if it made sense. (I don’t even know if it was the right face lol ). It was different, not in a good or bad way, just different. ie, your jumps looked like jumps, her’s were knee to chest jumps. In the series of punches to the floor, she had more shoulder extensions, where as you had more shoulder abduction. (the difference was just the emphasis on the posterior vs lateral delts). You know what I mean? Hope I didn’t confuse you more. lol

        1. You sound like an instructor! Or then again, that might be the Chiropractor coming out of you 🙂

    1. Thanks for reading Monica in spite of being unfamiliar with the program. One day, we are all going to meet up somewhere and work out together:)

  3. I have the Les Mills Combat workout series. I think I would really like to get certified to teach. Or, I could just come to your class cause it looks like fun!

    1. Teaching is so fun! You should give it a shot. I haven’t ordered any of the at home series because I’m at the gym so much. I’m very glad they make a version available for the at home crew though.

    1. Yes! Your energy and passion for Cross Fit are so through the roof! I think you’d be excellent! Thx for supporting these reviews!

  4. I don’t do classes very often but I think I’d like anything that made me feel like the people groovin’ and movin’ to Track 2!!! On my runs I usually listen to music that has a club feeling to it because the beat keeps me going. I hope that your Les Mills videos help your class the way you wanted them to. I’m not an instructor but I agree that the most important part is that your class like the routine. I’m glad your class does. 🙂

    1. Me too! THat is always my main concern. If I see members looking crazy when I ask at the end of a new release if they like it, then I will try to limit teaching that release. I think you would add a lot of character to a group fitness class Veronica! You should mosey on in a few and find one with that grooving music 😉

  5. Visiting from TGIF Friday. I’d like to invite you to my Friday Flash Blog, where you can share your best blog entry of the week! The party goes on ALL weekend. And who knows, you may just get featured next week.

    Jennifer

  6. I am not even going to touch the exercise part but everyone seems to love when I do my conversations on Friday’s that brings traffic to my blog more than anything else during the week. You are still talking about fitness so these types of posts fits right in to me.
Kita recently posted…Zaxbys is going downMy Profile

    1. Thanks for the feedback Kita! Your conversations are so entertaining! I see why they are a huge traffic source. I should do a conversations post on some of the academy award winning performances of some of my patients at the pharmacy! Hum…I may need to guest post 🙂

  7. Even though I haven’t been to bodycombat nor do I teach it, I like the longer review. Sorry to the others who expresses that they didn’t. As a fitness professional I appreciate that.

As far as the blogging content, my highest traffic posts are not things I talk about anymore. I feel that blogging is a full time job so unless I love to talk about it, I’m jusy not throwing it out there. Call me cranky but I guess I don’t care as much about the numbers as I used to.

  8. You were kickin’ butt in that video! I wasn’t familiar with Les Mills previously. Doing my first 5K Run/Walk next weekend. Looking for ways to stay fit since the gyms near me are always over crowded. Take care.
Kimberly H. Smith recently posted…You Can Quote Me On ThatMy Profile

    1. Thank Kim! Good luck on your 5K! So exciting, I’ll be waiting to hear all about it on the blog!

  9. I can’t comment on the BodyCombat video but as far as silent traffic to my blog, I think most of the posts I write about photo related topics get a fair amount of traffic of non-commenters. This is an interesting topic…what compels people to comment? Definitely one to explore!
Michelle recently posted…More Blog Challenge FunMy Profile

    1. I agree Michelle! You know I am always trying to find out scoop from others about what helps them get traffic.

  10. Forgot to tell you that I love the video clip of the class. I like watching you teach and I can see from the mirror that you have all different kinds of women in the class. I love that!
Carli recently posted…Zumba Sentao #FitnessFridayMy Profile

    1. Thanks Carli! I love the diversity in the class as well.

I don’t think you’re cranky! It’s awesome that you aren’t enslaved by the numbers!

    1. Thx my friend. Does that mean you’d try the class? If I remember correctly, you don’t fool with group fitness too tough, lol!
