10 Lessons Learned in 2012

I know this is the time of year that everyone makes New Year’s Resolutions and that is why I posted about Vision Boards a few post ago. However, I set my annual goals for my birthday, which happens to be in the middle of the year.  It works better for me to focus my annual goals with the age factor.  With that said, I wish you the most success on your resolutions for 2013.  I do want to pause to reflect on a few lessons learned in 2012.

They provide a lot of bang for the buck. They are a great source for the individual trying to lose weight.  With the Tabata specific boot camp, one of the keys to being successful is your nutritional support. For Act-Fit Friday, I’m sneaking a peak at the “NO CALORIE COUNTING” way of life of the Tabata boot camp attendee. Only 30 minutes per session and no calorie counting, this Tabata Boot camp is going to be very convenient and effective.

I am excited to officially launch this Lifestyle Wellness blog to my family and friends after some extensive planning.  The theme of this space of mine is Live Healthy and Active, Be Prosperous! PSA: New Product ORAQUICK for HIV testing

Do you know someone who refuses to get an HIV test? I know you do, and it is repulsive to me from a healthcare and personal perspective, especially if the person engages in high-risk activity.  That is straight buffoonery to potentially knowingly infect someone else with an incurable disease just in the name of hum-mm…. Y.O.L.O. (You only live once), I guess.

Some people truly might have stigmas associated with testing.  That’s why I love this new product and think it deserves a public service announcement just in case you missed the advertisement.

The traditional watch night services for some and parties for others are here to stay for celebrating the New Year.  This year, you can start your own daytime New Year’s Party tradition with the girls.  Send an e-mail asking them to join your Vision Board Themed New Year’s Day Party.  It is the perfect way to gain accountability for those new resolutions that usually fly out the window by January 15th.

I made my first vision board in the summer of 2009 and I can’t remember for the life of me what sparked my interest in them.  I missed it on Oprah, although that is apparently where the popularity in vision boards sprang.  What I do remember is that I was hooked after spending the time to creatively display my goals visually and showcase it in the private space of my home as constant motivation and a daily reminder. Why am I up?

Do these late night/early morning social network post look familiar to you?  Would it shock you to hear that 1500 deaths occur yearly due to drowsiness and it’s not always as a result of alcohol intoxication?  According to NIH National Center on Sleep Disorder Research, 6 to 12% of the adult population struggle with insomnia (inability to sleep).  If you are in the number, I totally feel your frustration. I’ve been there and done that.  As, an overnight worker for the past seven years that had to adjust to sleep disturbances, I’ve tried and tested a number of lifestyle modifications that I professionally recommend to patients.  Insomnia is a top complaint in the pharmacy and most customers desire an OTC recommendation from me.  I’m happy to consult, but I always discuss some of the following first to see if we can detect some preventative efforts on the patient’s part.

The modern proverb “failing to plan is planning to fail” is the foundation of my mantra SCHEDULE f-IT-ness.  Just schedule it!!! I am a firm believer in planning and follow through.  Follow through requires our planning activities and fitness.  Every month, I’ll post my scheduled fitness in the side bar for easy access as inspiration for you to plan your own fitness.  Sure we can do some workouts together but exercise is most beneficial when individuals find activities that make them happy.  This site is all about finding and committing to YOUR specific weight loss efforts, physical activities, and healthcare needs & preferences. Therefore each month, I’ll also make available a blank printable for you to post in a visible area after you have planned your workouts for the month.  You can download the first one here.
