15 Reasons I Will Love Your Blog

Valentine’s Weekend is over but I’m keeping the love going! I started making this list after 2 friends of mine expressed interest in starting a blog.  This is not rocket science nor is it the most profound blog start up advice. It’s simply a few things to think about when getting started.

15 Reasons I Will Love Your Blog - Rx Fitness Lady

  • Your text does not hurt my eyes nor do I have to zoom in to see it
  • Your comment form doesn’t make me fill out my name, email, and website every time I visit
  • You make me laugh sometimes
  • You always (95%) include pictures
  • Your face appears somewhere on the page so I can match a face with the voice
  • You leave me questions to answer at the end of the posts
  • You don’t post on weekends
  • When I think of your blog, I know exactly what you blog about
  • I don’t feel like I’m in high school reading a text book
  • Your share buttons are easy to locate.
  • Your social icons are visible, easy to follow, and your email contact form is not playing hide and go seek (it’s frustrating to want to help someone, and you can’t find the email to communicate)
  • You don’t have captcha
  • If I always know EXACTLY what days to check in on you
  • If I can tell you are truly genuine
  • 95% of the time, lol…if you love my blog 🙂 !

Yours in Healthy, Active, & Prosperous Lifestyles,

  1. Great list and awesome reminders. I sometimes post on the weekends because I have too much on the brain or just pictures to share lol. Forgive me. I love a well thought out post, not just 20 words and a question. Drives me a little nuts.

I get a lot of people asking me how to start a blog. I honestly don’t even know where to start! I’m so deep in the game at this point it’s so hard to start from scratch with them.

    1. I don’t like blogs that post all week and then post on the weekend too, it’s like…really, what else do you have to talk about! Unless they are doing a special challenge or something, but just every week…uhh NO!

  2. You hit the nail on the head with these. I still support one blog that uses captcha. I read more that I comment because often I don’t feel like being bothered with captcha.
I like when bloggers change it up a bit…it keeps things interesting to me.
Had a great Valentines getaway. The Ritz Carlton was booked so we stayed at a Disney Resort instead 🙂 (j/k about the RC * <3 * ) .

    1. 🙂

Yeah, I will read every now and then, but I honestly can’t recall one blog with captcha that I comment on.

  3. Now you know I don’t do the picture thingy but I am coming around. You will find a picture of me in the team section of my magazine and I do try to use pictures for my magazine for pinning purposes. For me to love your blog you have to have something on it that interests me or show me support. There are blogs that I don’t necessarily like but I make sure I still support them because they support me. Don’t worry I like your blog lol

    1. Thx Kita 🙂 I was like that at first but it was draining me to continue reading those blogs so I had to bounce!

    1. I should have been more clear! I too will not comment on the weekend (for the most part) I will still read them, but a lot of times that is all. It’s kind of like for me, well you posted this on the weekend, so you must not of wanted many comments!

  4. I love this so much! I’ve got a similar post scratched out on a note card!

I struggle with keeping a daily posting schedule, mostly because of the season I’m in. I’ve got an active preschooler and 6 month old baby and sometimes LIFE HAPPENS. I try to keep it to 3-4 times a week!

  5. Well, I’m guilty of posting on the weekend but it is just because it is part of my personal goal and I know that very few people read on weekends!
I need to check and see if your name and info auto populate on my blog – not sure about that one!
I do like when people mix things up – I like recipes, workouts, stories about their lives – all of it!!!

    1. The questions are there to help people if they didn’t particularly identify with my posts but still want to show love. I welcome any discussion points on my posts. Sometimes I am looking for specific feedback, but no worries if you never answer a questions again 🙂

  6. Great list – although I am guilty of a few. But, I figure there’s a certain feel to a blog, and even if you break a few rules, I’ll still follow if we have a relationship (but we never build a relationship if you break a few too many rules:))

  7. Another winner, Joi! No surprise there. I actually panicked and went to my blog to make sure I have a photo of myself. It’s not as high as I’d like, or as big, but it’s there. Whew. And I do struggle with font problems. I just use the default one.
I think I do employ some of these things, if not totally all.
    Wheee!

    1. There are so many other ways to get around spammers Rhea, but cheers to ya for typing in all those letters regularly!

  8. Hey Joi!! Love this!! What I like about a blog…overall appeal. It has to be easy on the eyes AND it has to have good content. What I hate…if I can’t find anything – your social media, contact info, or better yet…your name! Ugh! Sure, I don’t mind seeing something different. It lets me see a different side of a person.
Why yes, I had a lovely Valentine’s weekend…nothing big at all! Lol! But it was still sweet! And you?

  9. Excellent reasons to love a blog! I don’t like trying to decipher the texts with the numbers–it drives me crazy! Especially if I’m on my phone (which I am 95% of the time). I love bring able to connect the words with a face.

  10. Definitely a great list of basics. I’ve been wanting to update my social media icons for over a year now, but it’s just not a high enough priority right now. I’d say that the first thing I look for in a blog is searchability. I like to be able to find things…either with a search button, navigation bars, labels or an archive. And if the blog has all of the above so much the better!

  11. True to form, you and I are on the same page with all of this. I understand why some bloggers do Captcha, but it irritates me when I can’t make out the numbers and letters on houses and mailboxes. And the wacky cursive fonts on some blogs can be hard on the eyes. Especially for the comment section! I really like niche blogs that incorporate personal stories with their posts. Like you, Allie, and Kim do. You guys are about your fitness (no lie), but you bring it all full circle.

  12. excellent list! I hate Captcha. With a passion. It’s gotten so bad that if I visit a new blog that reqquires it, I won’t comment.
I;m trying to get better with posting consistantly( i always post on Monday) but life is so hectic right now!

    1. Understandable! I know it’s not that serious, but I just say Kita for instance…it was embedded in my brain her say what schedule (days & post time). I could follow her without a reader. Of course I’ll still read, but I just like knowing what I’m in for if that makes sense.

  13. I post on Sundays, but I make it short so that it doesn’t eat up my time and that of my readers.

Captcha… I’ve got to truly love the blogger to deal with it. I can’t make out what they want me to write most of the time!

I laughed at the high school textbook post. Some people write these uber-long posts that I just cannot finish. I try to keep to 500 words for most of my posts so as to not lose readers.

And I do like it when people switch it up a bit from their regular niche. Shows a different side and makes it more personal, most of the time.

    1. Your Sunday totally was not what I was talking about. I meant people who post ALL freaking week and seriously think they still have stuff to talk about on the weekends, every week!

  14. All good points. While I’m a “sporadic” blogger, making it difficult to know when or what I’ll post about, I still try and stay abreast of the blogs I follow…that way I’m still connecting with my readers despite my lack of posts. {Hope that made sense!} This list you put together is honest and helpful. P.S. You’re right…There’s nothing worse than captcha. Have a great week, girl! XOXO

  15. i totally agree with you on your reasons, joi. the only one i don’t mind is bloggers who post on the weekends. everything goes to my bloglovin feed anway so i get to it when i get to it, regardless of when the actual post comes out.

my biggest pet peeve is bloggers who post every day. cannot stand that. seriously, way too much information. readers are reading a ton of blogs so we don’t need to fill our plate with a blogger who is posting DAILY!!!

  16. Honestly, I think you’ve mentioned all of the things that I love about my favorites! Seriously, the captcha thing has recently been truly annoying for me. My non-regulars have it and I’m just like “pretty please change it!” I’m not always able to get the wording and/or numbers right to make the comment go through! One thing I feel I need to work on is a posting schedule! My linkup is over the weekend so that’s what I tend to end up posting during that time, but participation in 2 Friday linkups some weeks throws me off for sure. Thanks for sticking around with me even though I truly need to get that together. LOL.

  17. This is a very useful list, Joi! I think CalorieLab does a pretty good job with these. One thing I don’t do is ask the reader specific questions. As a doctor, asking good specific questions is part of my job, but socially, I tend to be either be very open ended with my questions or just let people tell me what ever they want.

  18. Hi Joi
A great list! I;’m going over to my blog to make sure I pass with flying colours 🙂
I do have comment moderation on — but that just means comments dont show up till I approve them — I get SO much comment spam. At least it’s still easy to put a comment — the reader just doesn’t see it right away.
