10 Lessons Learned in 2012

I know this is the time of year that everyone makes New Year’s Resolutions and that is why I posted about Vision Boards a few post ago. However, I set my annual goals for my birthday, which happens to be in the middle of the year.  It works better for me to focus my annual goals with the age factor.  With that said, I wish you the most success on your resolutions for 2013.  I do want to pause to reflect on a few lessons learned in 2012.

In no particular order of importance…

  • I don’t need caffeine (DR. PEPPER) to get my day night started.  Water sending me to the restroom every 30 minutes keeps me just as alert.
  • Be willing to try something new.  I was very apprehensive about not wearing my hair.  I tried this new do for fitness maintenance purposes and it has been the best decision I could have ever made.
  • I should never skip a fellowship opportunity because it’s inconvenient for me or I’m too busy doing selfish activities.
  • Failure is an opportunity to strengthen your resilience, don’t let it get you down, just figure out how to do better the next time.
  • I should eliminate things/people in my life that I am just tolerating, like a friendship without compromise and junkie paperwork for projects I’m not working on any longer.
  • My prayer box is not just for my friends and family, it works for people who don’t have your best interest at heart as well.
  •  Mentors have flaws; don’t get disappointed when they show them to you.
  •  Plan your response to when people or situations push your buttons like commenting on weight loss/gain.  NOTE: If you know me personally, I can do without the “It must be nice” comment:)
  • Be intentional about who you spend time with and make time for special people in your life.  I have to set a designated time frame to spend time with certain loved ones.
  • Tackle fear with preparation and make the next move you know you need to, financially, educationally, personally, etc.  See number 4 on failure!

I hope that you use today to reflect on the good and bad of 2012 and what can be learned from those experiences.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    1. Right on Kita, we all do have flaws! That is why I had to learn how to deal with and maneuver around a flaw so I could still get the positives that I so admired from a mentor. That is my number 1 question when a potential mentor takes times out to speak with me.

  1. These are all great lessons learned. My favorite is: “Be intentional about who you spend time with and make time for special people in your life.” I think that is so very true. You’ll be surprised what other people habits and behaviors rub off on you.

  2. I love these, I can identify with a lot of them ESPECIALLY the prayer box. I actually heard some great advice recently that told me to pray for those who harm you regardless of how you feel about it…I am also in the process of eliminating people in my life that I only tolerate…all that time spent tolerating someone could be time spent caring about someone you really love. Awesome post!

  4. Joi, your water tip for the a.m. Hours surely has helped me end 2012 with a new realization that I could tolerate that a.m. Water. I don’t have to have that coffee. WATER IS GOOD. Iam going to keep it going in 2013

    1. Nice! I got to share that with you before this post. The proof is right here folks:) Thx for sharing that success. Good luck with keeping it up, I’m right there with you

  5. Wow….2012 lessons learned!!!

My biggest one had to be realizing how much negative that I was speaking into my life. But after reading Battlefield of the Minds by Joyce Meyer in the Raven Lady’s book club, I’m more conscious of my thinking!!! And that it is positive!!!!
    Be encourage in 2013 everyone.
    Wonderful post Joi!!!

  6. My darling, first born, what a joi(joy) it is for me, your mother, to take advice from you now! I have always known that you were going to do great things. You are helping so many people with this blog. Continue to spread your wings. I love the way you are soaring! Keep up the marvelous work. As always, I am your #1 fan. I love every single one of your things learned. I have learned that parents can learn from their children. I am really learning from mine. I love you, Dr. A. Joi Jones. Your mother, RoberTa

    1. I love you too Mother! You are the best. I appreciate you reading this here blog. I know that you will be playing catch up on Thursdays at the hair salon:) Thank you and your Hubby for always inspiring me and allowing me try out different things to get to this point. I’m glad you are taking some advice away from here. I have learned so much from the two of you, good to know I can reciprocate:)

  7. These are great tips! I can certainly relate to a few of them!
I like that you make resolutions on your birthday; I’ve never thought of that! I definitely need to keep a few of these in mind in my life (especially numbers 2,4,6 and 10).
    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  8. I absolutely love all of your learned lessons…I can use most of them! The biggest lesson learned in 2012- intuition is a gift that should not be taken lightly. I must trust what I’m feeling and act accordingly.

    1. Yes ma’am Veronica! When you try it, you will feel so much better. It’s like you are belted over in laughter on the inside at their ignorance.
